Enjoy what you have. It makes for a great story. "Yeah, Grandpa shot this........"

That's what I'm talking about! Get out and shoot, even if it is to keep up proficiency.

I've bought a gun every other year for about 40 years and fired all but one. My 1941 Luger... all matching parts and probably less than 100 rounds through it. I just can't bring myself to fire it. (Now my DWM/Mauser FrankenLuger, that's a different story. I've put a lot of lead through that one since 1975!)

Glad to see us old farts are learning to get along again.

I retired my dad's P08 four years ago when I realized I didn't own this, it's a family heirloom.

Get her dirty, then clean her so she starts to respect you. When her trust is complete, she will serve you well for a lifetime!

Alsgun if you had stated this in your original post instead of :

"OK, When I first started shooting I had a 1911, don't remember exactly what, anyway I wanted another one so a few years ago I purchased a new SS colt, I still have not fired it, I am thinking of sending out for the proper adjustments, bushing, etc. Should I or should I just keep in the box for the grandkids,"

We might not have had this disagreement. Remember that people don't know what your thinking only what you write. Your original post was vague and the question covered a very broad area and is therefore open for interpretation.

uh oh, let's don't get started again...

Nice heirlooms Cane and I see your point, they should be passed on to children who will appreciate them. I hope the story of your father intrigues them and they always remember. I look forward to letting my grandson shoot my 1913 DWM in 2013. He'll be 8 then and his dad isn't keen on him firing it yet but I said if we're all around then we HAD to take it out on its 100th birthday! I'm 62 and hope to have a few more good years...

What a great story, its neat knowing the stories behind your guns. In my collections of guns and other antique Items I have always said " if these things could talk..." Yours actually do, neat.
