help on a 9mm1911

I was talking with a good friend of mine the other day and he had asked my thoughts on the 9mm 1911's. I told him i hurd both good and bad but really havent looked to deeply into them. He went on to ask if it would be a good first gun. I told him to give me a few daya so i could see whats out there and hear peoples personal experiance with them. Now hes had his ccw for a year and ive taken him to the range a bunch of times with my guns. The main purpose of the gun he said is a range gun not a carry and because its 9mm its cheap to shoot. So my question is whats good whats not good and lets hear it all. Thanks guys and gals.

Depends on his budget. I love my RIA tactical 9 for range time, not ready to trust my life to it. I also have Colt commander 9mm, I would trust it.

Take a look at STI. They make several models in 9mm. They are quality firearms that come with a lifetime warranty.

Hes looking around 650 700 range.

Personal Opinion of mine.
Get a .45 with a .22 conversion kit.

Magazines are more readily available for the .45.

For a relatively low budget 9mm 1911 my first choice would be a STI Spartan. Every one I've seen runs
well.

My wife has 2 9mm 1911's that she competes with in USPSA Single Stack division. Both run 100%
Gun 1 is a Colt Series 70. It likes Tripp research 10 rd Cobra magazines
Gun 2 is a Springfield loaded stainless. Magazines for it are Dawson Precision 10 rd.

I really can't think of a true 1911 in 9mm that i've heard bad reviews on-
I have a RIA Tactical that has run 100% with every type/style/brand of ammo i've run thru it :)

I'm having some serious issues with a 9mm Spartan IV, but it seems to be unique to me.
