Modifying your existing hammer would not be bad. Taking a file to the rear if the hammer spur and simply shortening it, recon touring it and then cold bluing the exposed metal surfaces after you are done would be fairly simple and inexpensive. You could do it yourself. Making that simple change could make shooting your 1911 just that much more enjoyable.

There are three ways to fix your issue;

First is to fit a new beavertail grip safety. (It's a lot of work and does require refinishing.)

Here's the how-to, post 42 - 45;

Secondarily you could install a Wilson Combat "drop-in" grip safety. (It is truly a drop-in.)

Beavertail Grip Safety, Drop-In, Government, Blue

I put one on my Defender and no mod was required to install.

Tertiary, you could do as Hossfly said and learn to fire the gun properly.

Get her dirty, then clean her so she starts to respect you. When her trust is complete, she will serve you well for a lifetime!

The easiest is to get the Wilson's as Canebrake sez.
If you want to see what work is involved in replacing hammer and grip safety, use this link:

The Wilson is very functional. Just understand that it will not give a very finished look (important to some) because there will be gaps since it is designed to work on large and small tang frames. Still may require s commander hammer.
