Gsg 1911
Was in the market for a new plinking semi and was looking at .22's.. stumbled across a "fake" 1911 by GSG in .22lr.. so I researched it a bit and it has pretty phenomenal reviews for a firearm in its price range ($325-375). I've also read the nearly all (approx. 85%) of the parts are interchangeable with "real" 1911's. The weight and size look and feel just like a "real"1911 as well. Has anyone had any experiences with this weapon? At this point I am about 80/20 leaning toward getting it over the mark II, simply due to the 1911 style and customization possibilities. Thoughts and feelings my friends?

These are really great .22 handguns. My GSG likes the Federal Bulk. I would however replace the guide rod and recoil spring. There is a custom set that really improves the GSGs action.:)

Where would I find this set/what would you recommend? And im surprised at the federal bulk.. id heard that they didn't like it much. But I guess its different per gun. (My savage axis .223 HATES federal and loves hornady, but my marlin loves the federal)

I had a bulk box of the red box federal, used it with GSG and they worked fine. from what I have read its the blue box federal that people were having issues with. I also read all the stories of broken guide rods, so I picked one up and installed it before even firing the gun. I picked it up at cwaccessories.com. ( I know sounds crazy replacing something that's not broke but that's just the way I am plus got a spare in case.)

Yeah, ATI offers a replacement parts kit for $20 that has the works. I considered ordering it, but since most of the parts are interchangeable with a real 1911, i'll probably just shop around for the parts I really want.

The CWA is the best one I have tested. P.S. I am used in their ads.:) By my own name.

You would have to buy a guide rod that is specific to this particular gun and also the recoil spring is specific too (and much less resistance than on a standard .45 - since this is a .22). You may already know this - but thought I would add. |
I do. But I always appreciate a concerned friend offering advice! :)

The GSG is a hoot to modify and shoot. Mine eats anything I put in it as long as the MV is 1150 or greater.
