Default Got my first 1911.. Colt Defender

Of course the first question to ask yourself before selecting any tool is "what are you going to use it for?"

Not so easy to answer if its the first tool, because you might list 3 or 4 things that don't really go together.

I wanted:
1. a 1911
2. to keep in my truck (so not super expensive)
3. a gun fun to target shoot with
4. a nice gun
5. compact, light, in case I want to drop it into my business bag

Yea well... as my buddy said... you might have to buy more than one gun.

After a little looking, I stumbled on a gun that might suit some of those needs... and besides, I liked it. So I bought it. (I admit my perception bias was toward Kimber and Colt.)

Supposedly new, at a gun show, a Colt Defender. SS finish seems like it will hold up good riding in my vehicle, and the rubber grips felt good in my hands... although maybe just a tad small for optimal performance... we'll see. (3" barrel for those not knowing)

Put a box of bullets through it yesterday, and could definately feel the diff between it and a 5" barrel for sure, but was able to stay in the circle pretty good at 20' after getting used to it.

So far, pleased with my purchase, but honestly, not a lot of reference points to compare with (yet).

i like that gun also got a new agent same as the defender minus the sights. i really like it. you did well getting the colt. im of the opinion colt is making the best 1911s under 1500$ atm.

IMHO, the Colt defender is the best 3" 1911 out there, but as I own one I'm biased

Great gun; what no pics?

Nothing worse than a discussion without pics, huh?

Impressive shooting, especially considering that its your first time with a 3" lightweight 1911 and its in a real caliber.

Want to extend that grip to support your pinkie? Here's what I did:

  • Smith and Alexander arched mainspring housing with mag-guide
  • 8 round Tripp Cobra mag with bumper

Works for me!

If you're going to embiggen the grip, why not buy a Commander?

Exactly!

I think the least compromised 1911 today is the Light Weight Commander!

Don't tell my Defender but it should have been a Colt O4860XSE.
