$700 or less, the SA Mil-Spec, possibly the Remington R1, several of the RIA pistols, MetroArms American Classic's, several of Citadel's offerings. the Ruger SR1911 from what i am hearing from people here and at my dealer, these seem to be pretty good pistols, but the problem is availability right now.

I've only seen one. Bought it a couple months ago at a gun show for $699.

Great basic 1911, sharp looking gun too. I got the matte stainless, like so:

Great "lucking" 1911 you have there.

The Ruger SR1911 as I understand it is a very good cast rendition of the 1911 but also very illusive.

I bought my stainless Remington for $650. I've only shot about 70 shots but it never had a failure of any kind, I've only used 230gr FMJ bullets, Rem and Winchester, I've use Federal and Remington cases. I have used charge weights from the minimum to the max. No failures of any kind.

My best 3 shot group off a rest was 2 inches at 30 yards. Second best load was 2 3/8 inches at 30 yards. Worst group was 4 inches at 30 yards.

That is about as much info as I can give you.

I wanted a Ruger since it was a trustworthy name and cheaper. But I'm well satisfied with the Remington.

I really like the Springfield Mil-Spec stainless steel. Seeing them around $750-$800. Little more but thats what I like. This wont be till Xmas, but I do months of research. I will know how to take down the gun and clean it before I even touch it.

if you are leaning towards stainless steel, then check out the Remington R1 in stainless. i looked at the same pistol Kid has and it's very nice pistol, but i ended up buying the R1 Enhanced. i have shot mine and can say it shoots very accurately and is very well made and worthy of consideration.

Umarex has a pretty decently priced 1911, especially their stainless model R200.

It actually looks a lot like Colt's Special Combat Government model 1911, but for less than half the price tag. I heard Umarex even helps manufacture some of Colt's parts as well, which would probably make sense as to why the look is similar.

I like my citadel more than the rock island, imho a better fit. So far i've sold my rock and am looking at getting a wiley clap comander. I do shoot my citadel 5 times a week at about 800 rounds per week and have had no issues at all i got it for 530 out the door at a gun show. It was in the last hour of the show.

From all the excellent 1911 renditions suggested, IMHO the PT1911 offers the most features and quality for a 1911 under $700.

shoot safe, shoot straight, and have fun
