Gold cup
 

I am looking into getting a colt gold cup. My mother has had one my entire life and I love it. I wanted to see what everyone thought about the new ones and what a good price range should be.

Look on auction sites. Gunbroker, Auction arms, etc... Everyone has different tastes, and I prefer other makes than Colt.

I don't think "much" of newer manufactured GC's. They are an OK pistol nowadays IMHO. The Eliason adjustable rear sights are marginal, the tiny roll pin in the slide that secures the rear sight is prone to breakage. The build quality these days is no more than an ordinary government model...bushing fit etc.
The wide serrated target trigger is a plus to some, but a negative to me.

For around 1K and up you can find them. I would suggest an older series 70. I have one that is quite nice. My neighbor has a stainless series 80 enhanced he bought used for $900. The pistol took quite a bit of "tweaking" to run and shoot well.

You spend your money, you take your chances these days.:D

I haven't shot any of Colt's new production GC's, but the vintage GC's are simply sweet.
Personally, I only carry Colts and Les Baers. To each his own...:D

I would love to get a 70 series, but I dont want to pay an arm and a leg for it. I have heard good an bad about the newer models, but I want to make sure that I am not going to be wasting my money on just a name.
