Here's my "little hole puncher" .
I learned as much as I could about it. Within about 2 r 3 weeks I wanted to make it a little different so I polished out some of it and added the grips.

i am going to throw out my suggestions for a 1911 pistol. Dan Wesson, Remington R1, and the Springfield Range Master. i would take any one of these in a second. then there is the Ruger 1911 that's getting a lot of good reviews, but seems a little hard to find in some places. just some of my ideas for a 1911. with your budget of a $1000 +/- 200, you should be able to find one that suits you. good luck with your search!

You can get an STI Ranger II in this price range. Excellent guns made in Texas.

I'd bet if you check with your local gun shop, they can put a couple of 1911 lovers in touch with you, to get some hands on time.

STI great guns and great CS
Colt pretty good guns and have a mystique about them and pretty good CS hold resale well
SA pretty good guns great CS life time warranty and a fantastic custom shop
Kimber full of mim parts 1 yr warranty no custom shop and lousy CS Way overpriced but great looking guns
DE great guns for the money good CS but a huge roll mark that looks like billboard excellent trigger
Remington good guns worth the money good CS
Sigs ugly and external extractor like S&W is a deal breaker for me. No thanks.

That is the rumor....I shouldn't have said that. That was misleading on my part and I apologize. On my STX the only MIM was the thumb safety and firing pin block (from what I'm told) Ive heard that some have the grip safety that could be MIM or the slide stop. Calling Sig, you won't get a definitive answer unfortunately. A part or two doesn't bother me. When the Sig 1911's first came out, 100% no MIM. Kimbers are all MIM and they have a stinking plastic mainspring housing! Come on Kimber!

I went to 4 local gun shops today. Only got to hold guns in 2 shops...some other didn't really have anything anyway but I find it interesting how some places will not even say hello to you. As a manufactures sales rep and years of retail experience this ticks me off.

Anyway, for me not really knowing much about guns I sort don't get the warm and fuzzy over the Kimbers I hold. The Colts I like and the Sig felt great hold them and racking the slide and so forth. I also jumped way down in price and held a Ruger and Remington and those seemed nice especially for the price. I can't find a SA Range Officer anywhere to check out.

I "think" I will be buying a Colt tomorrow....maybe the Gold Cup model.

You held a Ruger? They are hard to find. Read this before buying.

Yes...they would not sell it...taking orders only. It looks like it costs more than it does....but what do I know as I'm so new at this.

I'm not waitng months to get one.

What's yall's take on Para? I held a few today.

Stick with your Colt decision.

You may want to rethink the Gold Cup if you're looking for a multi-purpose gun. (target, competition, PD/HD and carry.)

The Gold Cup is a task specific pistol. It is made for, and intended to be used as, a competition firearm. It comes with two different rated recoil springs. One standard weight spring for shooting standard load ammo and a lighter weight spring for shooting target loads. The Gold Cup is not intended to be used for running hot loads and +P ammo. It can take it but it's a target pistol, a very accurate one at that!

The Gold Cup is not a good choice if you intend to multi-purpose a gun.

The adjustable rear sight does not carry well and it comes with a "special" (read: wider) target trigger.

Unlike many of the other Colts, the Gold Cup is not intended to be modified or customized by the owner. The Gold Cup National Match model is built specifically for the National Matches held at Camp Perry, Ohio since 1907 and take place every summer.

Get her dirty, then clean her so she starts to respect you. When her trust is complete, she will serve you well for a lifetime!
