First time w/ a m1911
Well I just went to my local shooting range and shot about 50 rounds worth of a M1911 by Western (i believe) and I love it. They didn't have a kimber or springfield available to be used.

I love the M1911 and I def wanna buy one. My question though is... has anyone had a concern with the amount of ammo in each magazine? 7 seems very little?

You can buy 8 round magazines, so with one in the pipe, you have nine rounds. They do make ten round mags, so you can have one in the pipe for eleven rounds. But the ten round mags stick out about an inch.

Personally, I'm quite happy with nine rounds of 230 grain goodness. ;)

You're saying you think the lower capacity seems too low? You start slinging around 45ACP rounds...Those things leave a pretty big hole in things. If you're hitting where you want then capacity is not going to be an issue.

I was just funning.:D Now my super sweet post is gone.

I think capacity isn't an issue.

I have no problems with eight rounds, especially in an 45ACP. might be a different story if I was shooting a 380 or may be a 9mm for that matter, but even then reloads don't take very long. I think once you start shooting your 1911 more you will feel more confident with the firepower you have in you mag.

never had a problem with it. the 7 round mags been killing america's enemies overseas since WW1 and it gets the job done. it takes two solid hits froma 9mm to equal one from a 45 so those 15 round mags for 9mm are actually less firepower than 7 from a 45 in my way of thinking. heh.

the only reason we switched from the 45 to 9mm is some senator's palms got greased in the govt contract game leaving our soldiers with an inferior pistol.

When you make that obvious and unmistakable decision to purchase your 1911, learn it, use it, know it, and just continue to shoot it and shoot it a lot, keep practising and keep shooting it.

After a while you will be confidant enough with yourself, shooting abilities and handling of that 1911 that if need be, you will need no more than 7 rounds to do what needs to be done, when the time comes. ;)

I have a variety of different flavors here and after almost 30yrs. the 1911 style is still one of my favorites. :)

Howdy! I must agree, when you learn about the 1911, 7 rounds will be quite enough. I have one of the 44 round pancake clips (it was a gift) and have used it once. Once was enough. The 45 round is an awesome round and one will do more than two 9mm. JMHO!

I'd have to agree with all these guys!
8 or 9 rounds of 45 is plenty. Many guys I know carry 357 or 38 revolvers with 5 or 6 rounds, and they are very confident with those as well.
