Plus, I'd be willing to bet that you could in fact handle a .45.
My older son started shooting my 1911's (all .45's) when he was 14. My younger son started at 12.
They both shoot mine all the time - so much that I have told them that they will have to start buying their own ammo and quit burning all mine.
Anyway, nothing wrong with a 9mm either and I wouldn't recommend just going out and buying a .45 without shooting one first (as Cane says) - but I just bet that you could handle it.
