If you are going 9mm then also look at the armalite pistol! Its 9mm and it is freakin sweet and accurate as hell! Definitely in your price range. If I ever bought a 9, it would be a top choice.

The "AR" in AR15 actually stands for ArmaLite Rifle, as they were the original manufacturer. This was in the fifties when they were part of Fairchild Engine

Just a little history for ya.

I really don't think you can go wrong with a Spartan V in 9mm.. As you evaluate different options it's good to define your basic requirements and then compare. One VERY important point is the warranty and repair reputation. STI has a lifetime warranty and they have an excellent reputation for warranty repairs. There are some big name companies whose warranty terms and service are less than stellar. Rock Island Armory also has a great lifetime warranty and service record.

Although some don't like the concept of a 1911 in any caliber other than .45 ACP, I think you are making a wise decision to go for a 9mm. While the recoil from a .45 is not as bad as you might think, the sticker shock is bad. 9mm is SO much cheaper to shoot, and will encourage to shoot more. You'll probably buy a .45 sometime in the future but 9mm is a great place to start. I love my .45 1911 but I shoot my 9mm 1911 a lot more.

Good luck in your search.

I own a Spartan 1911 full size. Picked it up 3 or 4 months ago. I can't say enough good things about it. Natural pointer, tight groups and always makes me smile. I am good with my Sig P226 but I'm better with the 1911.

My Spartan is has had no mods done to it except a grip change, it just shot good out of the box and has gotten better the more rounds that were put through. I figure I have shot 1500 - 1800 rounds by now. I am at the range at least once a week, sometimes twice and always shoot 100 rounds of .45.

Yes, I'm addicted to my 1911.

Have you shot a .45 ACP 5" Government 1911?

Let this old man give you some sage advice at your ripe age of 14.

The only time you should even whisper "...i really dont think i can handle a 45..." is after you have shot one. (or many)

You show me the intelligence required to develop into an accomplished shooter. This judgment is based on your presence here and the questions asked.

You have a long time to learn and save for that 1911. It's a safe bet that by the time you make that first purchase, you will change your mind on that STI and a hundred more models. If we do our job here at the FTF you will make the correct purchase decision for YOU, based on facts. (and buy a Colt)
