Default First 1911

Hey guys, i'm looking to purchase my first handgun. I would really love to have a 1911, but i'm on a budget. I'd like to stay under $600. Are there any good quality, cheaper 1911's or am I going to have to look into the used market? Any advice on brands and stuff would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

Franklin

check out RIA, MetroArms, STI for new 1911's.

nothing wrong with used if it functions correctly.

just for reference, good quality and cheap usually don't belong in the same sentence. the word you are looking for is inexpensive. something can be inexpensive but still of good quality. cheap, not so much.

refer to the stcky at the first part of this sub-forum on choosing your first 1911 by Canebrake. lots of good information that will be very useful and help you in your selection.

Yea I just read through it. Sounds like Rock Island make some nice pistols. I want one for carrying when I go hunting and to have some fun at the range.

don't let the price of the RIA or the MetroArms fool you. they are an inexpensive 1911 that is well made, decently accurate and have some great features for a good price.

last year i ordered a MetroArms AC Commander for a custom build. i wanted a Commander sized 1911 for my collection. they are a perfect platform to build on for the price. here is a link to the thread where i modified my Commander.

Check out the Springfield Armory MilSpec. 600 rounds through mine with zero issues. Mine has great fit and finish and plenty accurate.

I actually just asked this question recently in regards to a good full size GI, and after months of looking and asking, all I heard was good things about the Rock Island 1911s. Those who did say they had problems seemed to all say that RI's customer service/lifetime warrantee were superb. Take it with a grain of salt, seeing as all of this is secondhand, but I just ordered one from budsgunshop.com for $417 with free shipping.

Hope that helps!

I saw the Ruger SR1911 Commander today for $619.99. If you can find that gun near you at that price I'd bust the budget a little and go that route. Be patient and get your money's worth.
