I gotta echo everyone else here. Remember the 1911 has steel rails on the frame and the slide and it will take a few rounds for everything to mate up. It doesn't hurt to clean the frame rails and slide rails really good and then drag a qtip thru them to make sure there's no gunk. This is even more important on a stainless gun.

New 1911s like to run a bit on the wet side until everything settles in so don't be afraid to use a little lube. Until you get a few hundred rounds thru it - I wouldn't change a thing.

As far as full-length guide rods go, they're certainly not necessary. My Colt Gold Cup used the short rod & plug just like the base Springers do. If your having problems with the short rod slipping out of place when you're putting the slide back on, put the spring on it (make sure the bushing is rotated to the disassembly spot) to hold it in place when you reassemble...

OK, I pulled up Springfield's Disassemble/Assemble instructions and I was just making it un-necessarily hard for myself. Didn't realize there was a method to removing the spring, it makes a huge difference, especially when putting it all back together. I wish i would have known that on my old Ballester-Molina, I might have kept it.

Ok, I still haven't shot the gun but I know I'm going to hate the GI sights, so I ordered a 3 Dot set from Springfield for $18. Now......how do I remove the old ones and install the new ones????

Congrats on your Springer. I have been shooting Springfields for about 15 years and 1911's in general since 77. In fact my oldest gun is a MilSpec that I giving to my son this weekend. I am replacing it with a new Loaded-Parkerized model. Here are a couple of pics of my new baby.

Nice piece!

What's up with the third photo? Looks to be a couple of chunks of coal blocking my view of that 1911???

Doc, you need a special tool to remove dovetail sights on a 1911.

Do Not try to remove them with a shock method. (Hammer and punch) They need a constant pressure to unseat them and if the tool isn't used YOU WILL ruin them! (Trust me on this one.)

You got a great deal on the sights, unfortunately they are not the "cost" of replacement. Without the tool, you will need a smith.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Will it help at all??
No, and I don't even know what you mean by "tame the recoil spring"?

The swap would be a wash. The one piece FLGR was designed in the same manner as fishing lures. They are designed to catch the fisherman, not the fish!
