I've seen independant expansion/penetration tests on the PDX1 & they were good. But Federal HST tested just as well & comes in 50 round boxes, so I prefer it in the calibers they manufacture. Wish they made it in .380.

i am going to say that i don't really have a favorite brand of SD ammo, but currently am using Hornady ammo loaded with their XTP bullets and really like them. i also use their XTP bullets in my reloads for practice.

Winchester PDX1, 230grain bonded HP. Feeds well and accurate in my 1911.
I have also used Gold Sabers and Gold Dots but the PDX1 gives me smaller groups.

IN warmer months my mags are only loaded with Winchester Ranger 230gr +P hollow points.

In colder months, where extra clothes may slow penetration through layers I alternate the Winchester and 230gr +P ball ammo. If the hollow point can't get to the meet, then ball will make a nice hole and soften the target up for the follow up HP.

I also follow Rob Pincus' Combat Focus shooting plan: Keep shooting to end the threat, so chances are good one mag might be empty, or almost empty, by the time the bad guy goes down, so I carry one in the gun and two spares.
