DefaultDesert Eagle 1911

I was at one of the gun stores the other day and noticed a Desert eagle 1911. $735. Looked very nice with a very good trigger. Has anyone tried one of these out or have one?

The specs and appearance certainly make it seem like a good pistol.

I think that's kind of high. I would pick others over that like a Springfield or Remington.

Someone else posted about one like 4 or 6 months ago. There was some interest and a lot of skepticism and than the issue got dropped like a hot rock.

I have been waiting for someone to test fire one, or rent one and see what the results were. My Range won't touch anything D.E. - I even asked the last time there if they were going to add it as they have high end Wilson Combat and Nighthawks for rent. The guy just said "No. Reliability is an issue with a lot of their stuff." and left it at that.

I would still like to shoot one myself and see.

Why don't you buy one as a project gun and give us a real world report.

I'll even through in $20 towards the purchase because I like you.

Geez Louise...I did a range report on my DEagle 1911 back in December...

Here's the link...

http://www.firearmstalk.com/forums/f57/magnum-research-desert-eagle-1911g-range-report-35717/

Its worth every penny that the dealer is asking for it. I've shot the Springers, Colts, Remy's...this gun is just as good if not better than all of them when you consider price point and the quality that you get at that price point.

I would buy another in a heartbeat if I had the spare cash laying around....

I've done some research and it looks like it is made by BUL in Israel. Probably a cast frame & slide (if it was forged - they'd say so on the website) so it goes into the same category as Rock Islands - good entry level 1911 if found at the right price. Haven't seen any on the local used market yet but I'd guess they're going to be available for the same general price as an equivalent Rock Island - so don't pay to much up front. IIRC, the Army PX here has them priced around $625 - about $100 more than the same level of PI built gun...

I'm fairly certain the slides are forged, and frames are cast on the DEs. The reviews I've read have been very good, I think they're definately one of the best 1911s in that price range.
