I use Underwood ammo as I feel they are the best for the buck and move at 1000 fps. Never had a problem with them or the Winchester ranger, federal hydra shock, or hornady. It's all about preference. One thing i will say is nickel plated brass is nice for a 1911 you carry because the gun doesn't care much about how much it jacks up the brass. The more you load and unload it with keep chewing up the casing.
I've heard that .45 JHP +p actually over expand. Plus the whole idea of a .45 is slow and heavy. Standard velocity in my 1911

More velocity equals more impact. And I like the bonded hardball + p for more penetration for a hunting sidearm. At least till I get a 10mm.

The only HP ammo that I've had any trouble from in any of my 1911's was Corbon But those things are like flying ash trays.

I use Hydroshoks or Hornady Critical Defense with 0 problems.

My Springfield seems to like Remmington Golden Sabres 230 grain. I don't hear much about people using them. Anyone else try them or heard much about them?

I'm a 100% with sixgun here it seems like everyone covered most aspect of the 1911's & .45AUTO ammo... The only thing I can add to this is regardless of the brand, type of ammo or firearm for that matter all 1911's love a polished ramp that will open up the variety of ammo you can shoot as well as carry

i beg to differ on the polished feed ramp. none of my present 1911's or any i have had in the past have had polished feed ramps, and eat anything i have ever put through them. a properly functioning pistol and quality magazines are a big factor in how well the ammo feeds. quality ammo is another.

start off with plain jane 230 FMJ ammo and shoot the snot out it! then buy several different brands of JHP and let the pistol decide which ammo it likes better.
