Default Dan Wesson PM7 45 ACP

Hello all,

I've been looking for a 1911 for quite some time.

After researching different brands, I had my mind set on a Kimber Stainless TLE II

I was about to make a purchase, then a few days ago I had the chance to hold and shoot a Dan Wesson PM7. WOW!!!!

The Dan Wesson felt great. To me -perhaps I'm wrong - it felt a lot smoother than any other kimber I've ever shot. Also, it felt very comfortable in my hands.

I live in California and my choices in owning a DW is very limited.

I want a stainless model, and I think the pm7 is the only option.

The pm7 apparently comes with target sites. Are after market night sights available for dw's?

Also, I've seen one at a lgs for about 1600. Is that a fair price for a DW?

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Thanks

Ara

The Dan Wesson's are great guns.

But that price is MSRP. Hit the auction sites for better deals.

Kind of a bummer really, thier's a lot you're missing out on.
I thought DW was keeping the PM9 alive for CA consumption as well.
$1600 is appalling for us outside of CA, Higher than MSRP when it was discontinued. I would like to think that it's on the high side even in CA.
FWIW, I own a PM-7 40 that I found used. They are great guns.
Sights - I don't know a lot about the different cuts used for 1911 sights. I suspect that your options are severely limited.
If I were you, I would put in a call to DW customer service and see what they can tell you. If nothing else, they might be able to put you in touch with one of their CA dealers, who can help you get what you need. Inquire about the single shot conversion, it may be a viable option, or not. I don't really know how the whole song & dance works.

Dan Wesson makes amazing 1911s. I own a few myself. As for the Pointman model (PM), it's a target gun and not a combat gun. Hence the adjustable target sights. It would be a shame to get rid of the target sights and put combat sights on a target model. Just my opinion.
