It's been my experience that a top-flight gun will usually sell for more than an upgraded gun. An upgraded gun is rarely worth the value of the upgrades, unless the buyer really wants those particular upgrades.

An unfortunate fact of life there. My Sistema will never be worth what I have in it, but I knew that going in. I built it for me.

If at all possible, it would be in your best interest to shoot what you're contemplating buying.... then decide...

Well im thinking Kimber because its a good $600+/- less that DW. They also seem to fit my hand slightly better. DW I felt like i had to reach just a bit or something. One of the shops I regularly go to is willing to give me a good deal, and I will probably be able to shoot them. The guy I always deal with and trust says that Kimber is over most of its reliability issues. More research and reading to be done still.

well ive gone and fiddled around with the DW some more, it just doesnt fit my hand as well as id like so I guess that knocks it out right away. Its a beautiful gun and just by holding and taking it apart i can tell its a well built gun. Ive been hearing enough good things about the kimbers, they fit my hand better. I fired a couple mags out of my friends Kimber 1911 the other day (didnt even know he had one) and liked it a lot. Ive narrowed it down to two local ones that id like to nab before i leave for my next deployment, The custom covert II with laser grips and the Eclipse Custom II both in full size. So we will see if I can grab at least one in the next week here, or 1 1911 and an M1 Garand. The shop has a really nice M1 in beautiful shape.

Not to get off the subject, but isn't it time the sticky "choosing your first 1911" gets updated. Its almost 3 years old and gives some non relevant information now?

Now back to the program

Here's my Dan Wesson/CZ 1911 a 10mm Match. It has functioned perfectly since new. I was able to order a .40 S&W caliber barrel and recoil spring from Dan Wesson. It was a perfect fit. I'm able to switch the barrel and spring and shoot 40 cal when 10mm ammo is scarce. It feeds and functions perfectly from the 10mm magazines. It is very accurate, truly a pleasure to shoot.
I was one that said I would never own a plastic pistol but when the media started blaming the Glock 17 and the 33 round magazine for that insane person who shot Congresswoman Giffords in Arizona, I had to buy one. I like shooting the Glock as well.
