Sorry - I hit the send button too soon.

As mentioned in my prior post from a week ago, I just purchased a Dan wesson cbob. I was able to take it to the range for the first time today.

Quick range report ...

Ammo used was 50 Rounds of Remington fmj and 100 rounds for WWB fmj.

The gun is absolutely amazing and fits perfectly in my hand. The first 30-40 rounds felt a bit sluggish. Things felt much smoother as more rounds were fired.

I followed the manufacturers instructions and cleaned and re- lubed the gun after the 1st 50 Rds

The gun is definitely more accurate than I am.

I however did experience a total of 9 failure to feeds. I was using the factory supplied checkmate mags.

One of the guys at the range -which happens to be quite an expert with 1911's- checked the gun and told me the ftl is common during the break in period. Apparently I did not apply enough lube. I was told the "wetter the better!"

Here's a close up shot of the targe at approx 12 yards:

And here's a shot of failure to load(s):

Any thoughts and recommendations regarding breakin period and proper lubrication is, as always, appreciated.

Checkmate mags suck too. So that may have been part of the issue! Ask any of the SIG p-series owners that have the checkmate mags and they will tell you. I'm lucky enough to have not gotten any.

I agree. My sig 226 came with checkmates and they were both royal pieces of junk. I replaced them with mecgars and the 226 functioned flawlessly ever since.

I do suspect the magazines could be the cause of the problem.

I've ordered a set of Wilson combats and hope that will solve the ftl issues.

Ya all I run in mine are Wilson's!

I run Wilson Combat and Chip McCormick in my 1911s and have zero complaints. Also have some Kimber Pros that work just fine

My experience with CheckMate & my CCO were mixed. One of the OEM mags was OK, the other was nearly unusable. Though there was some improvement with use.
I also had a used (I mention "used" because I'm not entirely certain they are OEM.) PM7 40 that came with Metalforms. They sucked...period. I replaced them with MecGars because .40 S&W Wilsons were unavailable. They worked well.
Sadly, even with a premium product such as Dan Wesson, Mags are still the weakest link. Hunt down some Wilsons or Tripps and things should be fine.

Update on the Dan Wesson Cbob (failure to feed)...

I just picked up a pair of brand new Wilson combat mags today. I cleaned the CBOB, lubed and headed to the range.

I shot 100 Rds of federal fmj ammo.

The problem was unfortunately not fully solved. I still had quite a few ftl. For some reason every, 10-12 Rds, the round would not feed.

A few times the slide would stay open while there was rounds in the magazine.

I called Dan Wesson customer service and spoke with one of the gunsmiths. He immediately emailed me a shipping slip and asked me to send the pistol for inspection and fine tuning.

I should get the gun back within 2 weeks.

Any Dan Wesson owners experienced such a thing with a brand new gun? Though I was disappointed at first, I'm glad the customer service was very helpful and are willing to remedy the situation.

I don't own a Dan Wesson yet but I just had a similar experience with my Kimber and it came back shooting great. Now I need to send in my STI Escort. Seems to be fairly common for 1911's to need a little tuning.
