Damascus grips
 

Hey guys, I work with a knife maker who does a lot of Damascus steel knifes and I'm having him make me some grips. For my 1911s I'm wondering if any one has had any dealings with grips like this. If so is there anything I should lookout for as far as rust or special care that will need to be taken to keep these looking good. I'll post pics as soon as he has them finished I'm expecting then after the first of the year. He has 6 knifes to finish by Christmas the he's gonna build the grips. Any input would be great.

Once you get them i wouldadvice buying a high end clear coat for metal and put two coats of it on your grips. I say two out of assurance sake

Saw the grips today they have 160 layers in them the blanks look good. He is gonna have them ready Wednesday or Thursday I'll post pics of them on the gun and info on what they cost of anyone is interested in a set.

Just got them today only took 30 min to do a final fitting not to bad for his first set of grips. I think he's gonna sell a few sets if anyone is interested, they will be a little under $250.00 a set.

Damascus is typically a high carbon steel. What is he doing for rust inhibition?

I'm working on that now I'm looking for a clear coat for metal to keep the grips from rusting or a good oil or wax for them. these grips were a idea I had he had never made a set before so this is a trial set I like the feel of them and the look. I'm gonna have something figured out before the new year I hope.

Shop around and see if rustoleum makes a clear coat. I have no idea if they do or not, buy they would be my first choice if they do. And you may be able to find it at walmart if it's made.
