You've got two now that carry hammer down. Some strange people in this world. It's no fast trick to cock a 1911 hammer and even harder when the adrenalin flows. Cocked and locked is the only way to go.

To each their own, I guess.
If you must carry the 1911 with the hammer down, I suggest you practice, practice, practice the movements required to cock the hammer. It's common knowledge that alot of fine motor skills go bye-bye if you ever have to deal with an "OH SH*T!!!!!" type moment.
It's almost natural to sweep the safety down when in condition 1 to go from "no bang" to "bang bang".

If a pistol isn't ready to fire instantly, it's as useless as tits on a brick. If you aren't comfortable with CONDITION ONE, then don't carry.

I don't own a 1911 yet (I'm working to fix that soon!) but this applies to any single action semi-auto, it makes no sense to carry it otherwise.
Last week a couple of cops walked into my shop (the station is half a block away) and I was shocked to see they carried Browning Hi-Powers with the hammer down. I asked them about it and they said they'd been taught to carry without a round in the chamber.

Condition One And Only
Texas Ranger Charlie Miller was minding his own business when a concerned citizen came up to him, noted the hammer cocked back on the big 1911 dangling from the Ranger's belt, and asked, "Isn't that dangerous?" Charlie replied, "I wouldn't carry the son-of-a-bitch if it wasn't dangerous."

Really? You might wanna' go back and check all of my posts concerning handguns.
This was my baby prior to me being forced to sell it:
I'm getting ready to buy one of each of these in the upcoming months:
Hell, I don't even like aluminum framed 1911s.
