Im new to the colt world and i was wondering which line of colt 1911's were the better pistol? Any advantages for over the other? Any flaws with either one? Differences??

Were? Don't you mean are, or has something happened that I'm not aware of?

Most will draw the difference between the two based on the Series 80 firing pin safety on the XSE vs the lack of a firing pin safety on the Series 70. I call bunk on this claim that the FP safety on the Series 80 is in some way-shape-or-form detrimental to the design function of the pistol.

I think the decision to buy either model should lie in the buyers taste in 1911's. Are you looking for an old-school GI look? Go for the series 70.

Want the current look in the 1911? Then the XSE with its extended thumb safety, ambidextrous thumb safety, modern sights, commander hammer, skeleton trigger, beavertail etc. is for you.

I think if the Series 80 FP safety is an argument without merit. I own and shoot both with NO awareness of this benign addition.

No sorry i didnt mean were! Well i got an XSE last week and a 70 series this week so i was just wondering what the differences were. They are both BEAUTIFUL and feel amazing. I dont have one single complaint "besides cost", but they are worth every penny. I appreciate you help and info. That was exactly what i was looking for.

its matter of personal preferance. for me i think front slide serrations are ugly. i dont like beavertails or novak sights and extended triggers in 1911s.

the series 80 safety adds a very tiny amount of pull to the trigger that you need a very fine gauge to measure. to me a firiing pin safety is completely unneeded in a 1911, but again thats a personal preferance thing

I would love to get a 90 and gold cup. Ive got a little saving to do now. My gun fund is a little low after these 2. Lol........ I just wish i wouldve got a colt sooner. I have been missing out!!
