Colt Officers ACP
So I bring the little pony home last night and I immediately head for Brownells to get some spare recoil springs. The sub 5" guns eat springs so I always like to have some on hand. This went from a simple "add to cart" to a more in depth search as it appears that the Officers ACP has a weak link - the recoil spring plug. The plug has a little tab that fits in the slide and is quite prone to breakage from what I've read. The dual recoil springs are also quite susceptible to spring bind so it seems. After an hour of searching and reading, I finally decided to replace the stock system with the Wilson full-length guide rod. Yeah, I know, go ahead and start the flaming.
The real benefit of going this way is I can then use single coil Wolff springs which will be much cheaper in the long run. I also saw an interesting way to mod a Para P12 recoil system; however, the Wilson is cheaper in the long run. I'll be in town this weekend so I need to take this one and the Kimber Ultra Carry I got from silentghost out for some "bonding". The pic of the pony (already put a long 3 hole trigger in it right after I took this pic)...

Nice. As far as the FLGR, hey, if it works, that's all that matters. My next 1911 is gonna be something for carry, can't decide what size yet, need to do some more research, but I've got a good bit of time before I'll be buying my next one anyway.
I can't believe you haven't put those awful looking pachmyers on it yet.

For the benefit of 1911 newbies, the FLGR in a full size gun is a great idea - for the folks that make and sell them. They may provide a tiny increase in "rigidity" and a bit of weight but generally speaking the standard Colt style rod & plug will serve you just fine.
In this particular gun, it appears that the factory design was a bit lacking in that the little tab can shear off the plug and leave your gun down for the count. From my research it seems that this part fails often enough to make me want to do some preemptive work - hence the Wilson upgrade.

I just ordered the 25CO full length guide rod (FLGR) from Wilson Combat, day before yesterday for my Colt Enhanced Officer's ACP, as my recoil spring plug is sticking out farther than it used to, showing signs of the little key piece wearing off.
It says minor fitting required, I assume a small amount of filing to the rear of the plug seat for the new plug's shoulder. We'll see. I couldn't find any vids of the process.

my new agent has a flgr colt went to that system because of the binding with the double springs.

I also saw where Clark Customs (the .460 Rowland folks) make a "tougher" spring plug and this may be another option. I think the FLGR will do the job well enough - but we'll see...

Found a black long trigger and installed it this morning but as it came out of another gun it had a bit to much slop. Just left in the aluminum 3 hole as it fit perfectly. Spent a bit of time polishing and cleaning up the parts on this one and the trigger smoothed out a lot. While it has a few scuffs on the outside, the internals look new - I suspect very few rounds ever went downrange - I'm going to fix that today...
