I decided to make my first question a very tough one . Lets see how she goes.

I have a Colt "Combat Elite" two tone that has never been fired and is in perfect shape as far as I can tell. I looked up the serial # last year and it puts the date at around 1987 if I remember right. Does not have the box/case. I am having a hard time finding one this old in this kind of shape to get some kind of value estimate. At five hundred bucks I didn't even look to see what I had. All I new is that it was a colt so I grabbed it. I have others to shoot so I will probably just keep this one in hiding. Anybody know what I've got here?

I would try to find others on auction sites. Also check out places that deal with used firearms (they may have a guide on approx value for different models).

Or if the dual color scheme does not go with the other solid colored firearms in your safe, I could keep it for you. Just send it to me.

Photos would be easier to give the gun a value. From what you've given so far, I'd say $850 would be a good price given that you don't have the box or the paperwork.

Pre-enhanced will have vertical cocking serrations on the slide.
Spur hammer.
Older style grip safety.
*pre-enhanced usually bring a slight premium over enhanced versions.

Enhanced will have slanted cocking serrations on the slide.
Skeletonized hammer.
Duck bill grip safety.

I found a pre-enhanced in fired, but like new condition, with a Colt pistol rug and 2 SS Colt magazines for $750 earlier this year as a reference for you.

Looks like I have the pre-enhanced. Maybe I'll get some pics on here when I get a better camera.

Thanks for that article. I'd have a hard time doing those modifications to an original Colt in that kind of shape. I would rather do a frame up build or find a beat up gun to mess around with. That's why I'll probably sell the combat elite and put the money into a custom project.
