I put some money into mine, new sights, fitted bushing, one-piece tungsten guide rod, I just didn't have the $$ to get the frame cut, for a proper beaver tail grip. Everything cost $ on 1911.

Cheaper to buy it w everything done at the factory.

I would consider the S&W. Keep ypour mind open. Compare the grips, sight picture, trigger pull, thumb safety. Never mind the extractor, it is a fictitious dilemma not worth 10 seconds of attention.

Also, if you appreciate the looks, the grainy stainless finish that looks all business on the new Colts tends to stain from residue and resist cleaning. The S&W Performance Shop 1911 looks borderline decorative, just IMO. (But could well be your best shooter)

Not so much the function of the external extractor but the look that it gives that side of the pistol.

My Gold Cup is polished stainless and cleans up easily.

Passing on the Combat Elite. Going this evening to see if the TRP is still at the LGS. If I can get it into the $1300s it might be a done deal.

Went in and fondled a Ruger SR1911. Really nice pistol and they seemed to be the hard to get popular 1911 there for a while. Now that they are more readily available are they not so highly thought of? I didn't really see where it was that much better or worse than any other mid-range 1911. I don't think that the Ruger is going to fill the bill on a new 1911 but at the $700 price point it really seems to be a good buy.
