"most affordable" not cheapest :-)

Armscor makes a quality 1911

RIA or High Standard are very good examples

Been going over this issue for the last few weeks, I've got 2 handguns on my "to get" list, a 1911 and a .32 Tomcat.

I have been trying to decide whether to buy an affordable 1911 or grab the Tomcat and wait til I can buy a better brand of 1911 (read Springfield or such).

I decided to grab the Tomcat wait on the 1911. I have a few guns, and don't plan on having more than a few more, for that, I'd rather spend a few $$ more and get what I'd really want as opposed to what my pocket can bear at that time.

Just MHO.

the RIA, High Standard or the MetroArms American Classic are very well built 1911's at an attractive price.

Don't forget the "used" 1911.

Some can be had inexpensively and still be in great shape.

Copy the sticky on buying a 1911 and apply it to both new and used.

Inexpensive isn't always cheap, too.

Its all on a firearm to firearm basis, ive got an "affordable" 1911 and i couldnt ask for a better gun, its been flawless. Then ive also seen a few of the 1k+ 1911s that werent worth their weight in lead, i wouldnt rely on them for range use much less my life.
