check out Rock Island Armory, MetroArms American Classic, Armcors High Standard, and Regent Arms. might find a decent used one, but more than likely even these will run in the $450-500 range if the seller knows about 1911's.
Rock Island/Armscor (Philippines) are the same. Good option.

I never had much luck w/ Taurus. 2 Semi autos, both ended up with the frames showing peening. They functioned just fine, but the peening was an issue.

You can alway cruise the used guns. Picked up this early Wilson build about 15 years ago for $475.00. Worth almost 3 times that now.

The Hogue grips make it much more managable/Accurate.

IMO, the Enhanced is worth the difference in price. as said, American made, well fitted and finished, very accurate, and just amazing to shoot. i enjoy shooting mine quite a lot. as a matter of fact, i shot it and the AC Commander both today. i can honestly say, buying the R1 Enhanced won't be regretted.

I must be confusing it with something else then, good news though!

I have the R1 GI, everything I like in a 1911 and nothing I don't need.

i will add this, even though i haven't even had the opportunity to even hold the Ruger SR1911, much less even seen it in person, from what i have read from those here and other places, i can say, that i will probably be buying one in the near future. it's just really nice looking pistol. and with Ruger's commitment to quality, i expect it to be just as well made as the reat of their firearms.

No Winchester doesn't. I was just informing which American company isn't truly American. Nothing wrong with FN they make good quality pieces. But I want an American gun.

looks like either Ruger SR1911 or the Remington R1 are your choices, unless you go with the Colt 1911. and honestly, i don't think you would go wrong, with whichever one you choose.
