Changing rear sights

How tricky of a job is this? Is it buy the proper tool and buy the new sights and bingo?

Different makers use different dovetail configurations. Insure you get a replacement sight that is cut for that particular dovetail.

When fitting a rear sight, if filing has to be done, it should be the bottom of the sight that is filed never the sides.

Filing is a last resort and best left to a qualified gunsmith.

A sight swap from a gunsmith will run you $100 and up.
I opted for the tool and do it myself. (and friends)
The best tool I found is the B & J Machine PI Model 500 Universal Front and Rear Sight Tool.

It works great and paid for itself with the first use.

You can do this easily yourself IF you make damn SURE the exact dovetail cut in frame-not only the width, but also the degree of the dovetail. If you get the correct size dovetail for rear site, it's drop-in. Just be aware there's several different sizes so again-make sure to get right 1.
