Default Buying a 1911

I'm thinking of buying a 1911, but don't want to pay over 1000 dollars. Does anybody have any ideas for a reasonable one

There are lots of opinions. More specifics are needed, I suggest reading this thread stickied in this section as a good starting point http://www.firearmstalk.com/forums/f57/choosing-your-first-1911-a-21860/ . If you have specific questions or are confused about something either search or ask but what you asked is to open ended of a question. The responses would be something like this.

"Yes"
"Springfield"
"Kimber"
"Colt"
"Taurus"
"Taurus sucks"
"Used custom 1911"
"Get a glock"
"Go to the glock forum if you wanna talk about glocks"
"The only real 1911 is a GI"
"RIA"

my choice is colt theyve got several versions under 1000$ all of which are superb guns. both my new model series 70 and new agent were well less than 1k$ after tax and background check.

If that 1911 happens to be a used one, this is a handy reference:
Buying a used 1911
As well as the function checks;

Good luck in your search.
