Then you've already made your decision.. Your not going to get a Kimber or Springfield for $800 or under. Not gonna happen ... Sorry!

Don't own one (yet), but have shot some Springfields - - nothing but good reports around the web too.

I work at a LGS and have had the pleasure to handle and plink with both the Remington and the Ruger.

Of the two, my preference was the Ruger. I preferred the fit & finish as well as the trigger, which I found to be crisp & clean on three different Rugers that I have handled. Obviously just my opinion. Both are respected firearms manufacturers. I have not had any experience with CS at Remington but have found Ruger CS to be outstanding.

I doubt that you would regret either choice that you listed. I would be a little leary of a $800 Kimber but I am a suspicious soul.

To put it nicely, Taurus has developed a reputation for inconsistent quality.

What's the saying? Haters gonna hate. There are several threads about Taurus 1911s here and almost every single person has had a great experience with them. They are a budget 1911. Personally, I'd much rather have a stainless Taurus than a parkerized Rock Island. Never had any problems with my Taurus and I've owned 3 Rock Islands and all of them have had their fair share of issues.

Haters gonna hate.
