Full Auto, I have a thread in the general area (the club house) for Senior Members Only. Check it out.
The fact that is so reliable is why I think it is a better combat gun, I'll check out the thread.

Google competition 1911's sometime. there are many pistolsmiths who specialize in building competition and target 1911's and have for years. the 1911 platform is well suited for whatever use a person wants it for, CC, combat, competition or target shooting.

Maybe your experience is different from mine, but I see more 1911s than Desert Eagles in target matches. Maybe 20 to 1 or even more than that.

I'm not looking to build the "perfect" target pistol. I have other pistols that are good at that. This is more about the experience of learning to build the 1911 platform and not screw it up. I was a cop for twenty years and in charge of SWAT for several of those years along with being a carbine and pistol instructor, so I'm familiar with the capabilities of the different weapons. I had a D.E. in .44 caliber and it was great for long range targets, but I sold it with the rest of my collection to help pay for an adoption (Best use of firearms ever). Thanks for all of the thoughts on the subject. I'm going to take a combination of the suggestions and start learning the small stuff and then build as i gain skill (If I gain skill).
