You will never go wrong with a XDm! I am a SA stocking dealer and I love their XD's and XDm's. Great guns from a very reputable company with a great track record of customer satisfaction. Couple of my shooting buddies just got XDs models within the last week or so and they also are great guns. I still prefer the larger capacity probably because of the size of my hands. The little bit larger grips fit so much better for me. Hope you find a double stack 45 that you are comfortable with and Froglube the devil out of it!!!!

1911 doublestack- I'd trust one, and would tend to lean toward Para or STI. But I think the best option for sub-$1K (if you want a heavier, 1911 type steel frame) would be a CZ 97. Great gun. And essentially a double-stack 1911. All it really lacks is the grip safety, and I'll bet it's higher quality than any similarly priced 1911 option.

Other options- The XDm45 is an outstanding gun. I have one and it's my hi-cap 45acp of choice. I've also been impressed with polymer FNs and Sig's alloy P227. There are others that are probably great, but I haven't worked with them enough to offer a meaningful opinion.

Between my girlfriend and I we have two Glocks and find myself liking them less and less over time, can't put my finger on it kinda feels like a Toyota to me, not too pretty, not too ugly and very little personality. I trust my life and my family w them but want more from something I'm gonna carry every day of my life.

I understand. I actually felt the same way about an xd I had. Everyone has their own preferences, that's why there are so many guns out there!

Just picked up a 30s,recoil isn't that bad. I wouldn't consider it "harsh" . My P938 is more of a handful.

It does fit leather g19 holsters and some kydex depending on the holster (Usually ones with adjustable tension).
