Best bang for my buck?!

Looking for my first 1911! I'm looking for a cheap commander size gun and planning on putting some Wilson combat parts into it as I go. I was sold on the RIA but now I've started looking at all the other "cheapies" so my question is... What would be the best 1911 for the money considering I will be putting a couple hundred dollars into it as the cash comes?

I'd think about hunting down a used SA GI or Mil Spec, maybe a Colt, something of that nature. Good basic pistols. If your going to build something, start with a good foundation. Putting & fitting $300+ worth of parts on a $400 pistol doesn't make sense to me. YMMV.

Just 3-4 weeks ago Bud's had the Sig C3 w/CT grips on sale for under $800. No kidding. Kinda wish I'd have bit. Maybe it'll go back on sale at some point. Looks like this:

Well first off I'd stay with the RIA for the money-
2nd- Why (or how) put another $200 into it
I can understand putting mabe a hundred into a good gun for xtra goodies-
I bought my RIA Tactical & added a MSH/Magwell & grips but what else would we want?

Ok ok ok... I think you guys missed 1 word I threw in my post... CHEAP!!! If I had the money I would love to have any of the guns mentioned BUT, I don't. Haha
I'm looking for a 1911 I can buy for cheap and use it to tinker on and learn more about the 1911..
Maybe I can afford one of those nice pieces mentioned in the future 😉

CHEAP!!! is always expensive. (and a compromise)

What are the long term consequences of instant gratification?
