Sig makes an excellent 1911. Chalked full of options for their price point too. With a $1000 to spend, you have some options. Or save a couple hundred more bucks and get this......this is my next 1911 purchase.

On of my pals picked up a Rock Island 1911 recently. It was a decent shooter out of the box, but it turned real nice when he swapped in an adjustable trigger. Today he rode along when I went to pick up my Mini-14 from my gunsmith and took his pistol in for some work. The main thing he needs is sights. It came with the military iron sights like the old WWII models. My GS looked it over, disassembled it and really spent some time evaluating it. He gave it high marks for fit and finish, was impressed by the barrel fit, trigger take-up, creep and overtravel, and like the barrel throat. In the end, they agreed to do limited work on the trigger and polish the throat, plus add some nice sights. All in all, it was well worth the $450 he paid for it NIB at a gun show. I think I would give one a go for that money.
