Shot my first one at about 13, in 1961 A buddy's Dad and his WWII battlefield pick up he brought home. I was about 5' 9" and 110 lbs. Shot one handed and it damn near knocked me over. Probably lucky there were no negligent discharges following the first one. May only have been one round in the chamber and none in the magazine. Mr Simeone was pretty shrewd! Got right back into firing it though.

I will be 66 in two weeks, and finally got my first one in August. A Ruger SR1911, and what was I waiting for. Great firearm!

Bought my only 1911, for now, at 70, Ruger SR 1911. Loved it at first touch, don't know how I ever got along without it.

Jack.

i'm in my mid 50's and have been owning and shooting 1911's for almost forty years and have probably owned at least fifty or more over the years. i have owned a boat load of various types, calibers and brands of pistols over the years, but the 1911 is still my favorite platform. a close second would be my revolvers!

I carried one in the Air Force, made one from Gov't surplus parts when I was around 30. Now 71, I still have it, carry it, and shoot it.

I am older than the dirt that was on John Wayne's horse. You couldn't give me a 1911 if I had to carry it. Now I would love try all the 9mm Glocks. The Glocks I didn't like I can cut em down until I do like them. I would like to have a G19 now to cut the grip down to G26 size. Then I would have the perfect pocket pistol.

Ummm, why don't you just get a G26 and put the 19 mags in it ? I would love to have a compact 1911 to carry, myself. Really like the looks of that Colt Defender.

Qualified with a 1911 when I was 19. Bought my first one at 23. 65 now and still have it. If you're trying to use age as a factor in the preference of 1911's and plastic autos, (read Glock), I don't think it's as clear cut as comparing bikers, Harley riders=old, Rice rocket riders=young.
