Armscorp 9mm Hi-Cap 1911 Upgrades
 

I just ordered an Armscorp 9mm Hi-Cap 1911 1911 9MM Rock Island Hi-Cap with Two-Tone Finish #AC-RI1911-9MM-HCTT and I'm just waiting on it to arrive at my FFL. Now, the sights and safety grip are the first two items that I want to upgrade. I'm somewhat new to 1911 pistols. Can you guys recommend a decent beavertail safety grip and set of sights for my pistol? I'll have to take the pistol to a gunsmith to do the work.

If Ed Brown parts don't fit it, send it back.

I have big thick hands. Hogue wrap around grips are excellent. Wilson part will fit all standard 1911's as will Ed Brown.
This is an early Wilson build w/ Hogue grips. Commander though.

Ok, I picked up my RIA 1911 in 9mm. It came in a case, with one Mec-Gar 17 round mag. I bought a second one and a Para Ordnance p18 mag. The Mec-Gar mags are flush with the base of the mag well and the P18 mags slightly extends past the base, but looks nice. I was really surprised by the quality and finish of the pistol. It is really quite nice. I just need to find some nice would grip pannels to replace the polymer ones.

I took it out to the range and man was it fun. It's really accurate too. My brothers and I put 300 plus rounds through it and not a single failure of any kind! I really dig this pistol. For you guys who were debating it, I say go for it. You can't beat the $399 price at Centerfire. I took some video footage, which I'll post ASAP

Along those lines, I bought one several months ago. Not the first RIA 1911 so I thought it would be as good as the first one I bought and liked.

WRONG !

First thing was that the trigger pull was rougher than your driveway. And that takes into account that you might have a GRAVEL DRIVEWAY !
Nothing that my jig and stone couldn't handle. So I put the sear on the Marvel jig and took a stroke across it and looked under a magnifying glass. Looked BAD. So I stroked more. It took 49 full strokes to clean it up to the point where I was satisfied with it. So I stoned the hammer. It, too, was bad. Took about 15 strokes to clean it up. So now I had a decent trigger but had somewhat of a bad taste in my mouth since my other RIA was so darn good.

I checked over the entire gun since I had it apart and saw plenty of scratches and other machine tool marks, not what one would expect in any gun.

So I started giving it a close check and when I found that the grip safety was sticking in/OFF, I decided that I wanted NO MORE TO DO with it and sold it. Let someone else do all the 'smithing necessary to bring it up to par. Yes, I could have taken off all the burrs and made it work well, but sometimes you just reach your point of no return and I had gotten there.

I still like my other RIA and carry it from time to time as a defensive weapon, to show how much I like and believe in it.
