Default Gun Lube

Here are my thoughts. "If it slides use grease if it rotates, use oil"

I use Lubraplate 105 from NAPA Auto Parts for grease. Great stuff used by mechanics to assemble engines. One tube will last a life time....

For oil I use Mobil 1. Synthetic oil doesn't dry out as quickly as petroleum products.

My 2 cents worth...

I have used mobil 1 myself to oil as well, and my jeep gets it too.

I dont use motor oil to lube per say BUT an army vet that owns a gun shop told me about using a brush, not a paint brush. Like the ones that you can find in the craft section in walmart, and using motor oil to apply to the frame and slide or the upper and lower of an AR. Just lightly brushing a very thin amount onto the weapons exterior will preserve and condition the weapon.i have been doing this for years and it does really work, i usually wipe down the weapon with a soft cloth after i apply the oil just so the weapon isnt oily

FP-10 is the best light gun oil overall. If you want a grease, there are lots of good ones. I think the best is Brian Enos Slide Glide. You can blend FP-10 into it to thin it out for cold weather use. I also use a small modeler's paint brush to apply lube.

After reading this thread (and a few others) - I decided to mix/blend my own gun oil this last weekend.

80% - Mobil 1 synthetic (5w-30)
10% - Marvel Mystery Oil (per Cane's post)
10% - Dextron VI ATF

I was extremely pleased with the results. It even has a nice "minty" aroma ala the Marvel Mystery Oil (which I think smells nice). It is not too thick or too thin. I will use this from now on on all my guns.

EWL Gun Oil 4oz Liquid

I have a few bottles of it that came with my 2 LWRC piston AR-15 rifles. I've tried it, and it seems so work fine, but I see no advantage over the Mobil 1 Synthetic Motor Oil I presently use.

I also use Mobile 1, both for general cleaning (its solvents are extremely powerful) as well as final lubrication (it's designed to work under much harsher environments than guns...).

Plus you get a lifetime supply for $5. I've been using the same bottle for two years and I've used maybe 1/10 of it.
