Just finished reading the excellent article in the new American Rifleman by Cameron Hopkins.

I was thrilled to see that Jim Hoag was prominently featured, as was Armand Swenson, two of my favorite custom gun smiths.

Jim Hoag has been working on my guns since the mid '80's, and he is still turning out masterpieces. I have several 1911's that he has done, as well as a couple of rifles. He did the work on my sawed off Mauser 98. Back in the '70's and early '80's he would sign his pistols on the inside, but he no longer does so due to liability concerns. And it helps that his shop is about 10 minutes from my house.

Armand Swenson built a 1911 for me, around 1988, that I regret selling a few years later. I still have a set of never fitted "Swenson's" that he gave me, however. I may have Jim Hoag fit them to one of my 1911's, just because it would be cool. I also have a set of Bomar BMCS sights for him to install on my Gold Cup.

Some amazing pistol smiths are featured in the article, and I hope everyone has a chance to read it.

I've thought about the Para but to have a Hoag or Tussey Custom Longslide.

I was talking with my shooting partner just this morning about having Jim make me a Master Class. Might make a drive over there in the next few days and see about the time frame.
