I'm no 1911 expert, but the Ruger does seem like a really solid choice for the price. You could probably find a better 1911 if you wanted to spend all of that $1000, but I'm not sure anything is notably better than the Ruger for the same price.

Unfortunately they're tough to get ahold of right now.
