.460 Rowland Kit
Hello everyone. I recently bought my first 1911, a Kimber Pro Raptor II, and I freaking love it!! Only have 100 rounds through it, but I haven't had a single FTF or FTE. Anyways, I'm already thinking of my next pistol (I'm sure it's a sickness because I can't help it) and I think I want to buy a full size 1911 and drop in a 460 kit. Just wondering which platforms work best with it... I was looking at a Springfield Arms Loaded in stainless because I think it would look pretty sweet with that Rowland kit. Any advice is always appreciated.
Check with Cane, JD and Stalkingbear. But, I am sure that the kit works well with just about any full size 1911.
The kit worked well in my Springer Mil-Spec, the GI would have required some fitting. In general, carbon steel guns are preferred as they have a lower friction coefficient than stainless. I do have my kit in a stainless Taurus right now though. Lower end 1911s, like Rock Island and Israeli made guns are not recommended. You can go to Clark Custom's website and they have a lot of info...
Approved 1911 list from their website:
Available for . . .
Colt Gold Cup Government
Springfield Armory Government
Sig Sauer Government
Smith & Wesson 1911
Government = 5" barrel / Commander = 4.25" barrel
IAI (Israeli Arms International) - We've found the top lugs in the slides of the Philipines produced 1911s to be soft! We've not tested the Israeli made guns but would recommend extreme caution.
Rock Island Armory
Taurus (Used to be on their approved list, but recently disapproved it)Llama
Any "GI" 1911 (note: Springfield Armory Current Production models excluded)
