You will need to shoot different types to find the one that your gun will shoot the best. Also no reason to go with +p most of the experts don't think they are any more effective than standard loads.Do the research on the net before
you buy.Just to make it clear I'm taking +P in .45 acp smaller calibers are another things.

Just picked up these today...

Spend 40 bucks for a box of 50. Not bad in my book.

For now I've got a box of Pow'RBall 165gr +P and a box of Hornady Critical Def 185gr.

Next time I place an ammo order of some sort I'll pick up a box of 230gr. Not super concerned about which manufacturer, as I have confidence in all the staple brands (Rangers, Gold Dots, Hydrashoks, Golden Sabres, Black Hills).

I carry what Ive been loading and shooting lately. It might be Golden Saber, hard cast lead, Ranier Ballistic HP, etc. All 230 gr. I dont hold with the notion that you need to carry factory ammo instead of ammo I load myself. If I could not trust my ammo, why would I shoot it in practice?
BTW, the Ranier Ballistics projectiles are very impressive. Very accurate, and the copper plating is nearly as tough as traditional copper jacket material.

The way it was explained to me was that you don't want to carry reloads from a legal standpoint. It gives a prosecutor the ability to put you in the light of an unstable gun nut who loads his own ammo. However inaccurate the portrait is, they can and will go there.
