45acp JHP Def Ammo- whatcha got?
I'm about to add my first 45auto, likely in 1911 form. I'll probably end up ordering some defense ammo shortly, and I'm completely undecided as to what I'll buy. I realize this is a personal decision and most of the options out there are more than sufficient. But I'd like to hear some opinions of those more experienced than myself....like choosing between 185gr, 200gr, 200+P, 230gr, 230+P.
So I'd like to know what 45acp defense ammo you use, and why.
Example: For 9mm I prefer Winchester Rangers, 127gr +P+. It feeds flawlessly in both of my nines and I think it possesses an ideal balance of weight and velocity (1200+fps) for a full-framed pistol. Internet research also implies that it is one of the deepest penetrating 9mm defense rounds available, though it might be less manageable in smaller, lighter pistols.
Any info or experiences are appreciated.

I prefer to use the 230gr hollowpoint.
It hits at about the same pont of aim as the FMJ I normally use, but with a hollow point, there is supposedly more expansion and not as much "pass through" as the FMJ.

I normally shoot the 45 Super (Buffalo Bore). No doubt of expansion. Otherwise, the loads from Double Tap offer high velocities, in their words, "Just shy of +P."

I use Cor-Bon Pow'R Ball JHPs because they will feed each and every single time without fail, from my experiences. I'll use other defensive rounds in other guns, but for the 1911, it gets nothing but Pow'R Balls.

I stoke my Para with 230gr. Black Talons (I have a good supply) . They are not easy to find and are expensive when you do find them. Next best for me would be Winchester 230gr. XST Rangers. JMHO......

230gr Gold Dots. Feed like ball. Expand reliably. Penetrate deeply. One of our guys had to put down an injured bull. Something in the 2000 pound range. Once shot in the "X" (eyes, ears, X). Through and through the massive head. Instant kill. Dug its self about 8" into the mud after exit. Perfectly expanded. Still weighed 230 grains!!!
I will put that up against any bullet.

Sounds like most so far are in the 230gr+P camp.
I've been 100% happy with Rangers and Gold Dots in other calibers, so I'll probably order one or the other. Hornady TAP and Black Hills also caught my eye. Maybe I'll order a box of one or the other.

I keep mine loaded with 230 gr Winchester Black Talons. I think their reputation speaks for itself.

The first two, the one in the pipe and the first one stripped from the mag are Cor-Bon Pow'RBall. They are HP's that will penetrate an auto windshield and deform little when passing through auto side glass.
The remaining seven are Hornady TAP FPD's.
I'm comfortable with that.
masterP and Bear mentioned Black Talons. If you can find them, then if you can afford them, jump on it!
Federal HSTs work well.
Find one, buy a couple of boxes and make sure they run flawlessly in your EDC, ONLY AFTER the gun has passed break-in.
