Guess you could say I'm just about the grand ole man of the forums. 300 posts, you could say things are starting to get pretty serious!

Anyway. I decided to make my 300th post thusly:

So I've never shot a 1911. I know, I know, for shaaaaame. Anyway, I want to think about getting one in the future if I rent and like it. I'm sure I will.

That being said, I now there are a million entry level 1911s out here. I would like to hear your guys' experiences with the lets say $600 or less ones. Especially the bad experiences.

I kinda like the idea of a pretty plain Jane 1911. Like what used to be issued. But I'm open to such luxuries as adjustable sights, fiber optic / night sights, extended beaver tails, etc.

I've done a lot of reading here and elsewhere. This thread is MOSTLY about getting #300 in on my own terms. :P

Congrats on the 300th post!

I have a Taurus PT 1911 AR and it is pretty nice...
No failures yet, but I don't reload...
No quality concerns for the price....
May be worth considering, but I am sure my comment has already attracted the Taurus hounds and their flesh ripping accounts of issues with that brand....

Haha thanks. What can I say? I'm a pretty big deal. People know me.

How many rounds would you say you've put thru the Taurus? I think the general consensus I've seen on them is their poly guns are hit or miss (unfortunately a lot of misses) while their 1911 are generally quality, for the price.

GI models are alright if that's all you've ever shot. But once you shoot one with the bells and whistles, you'll be wishing you had bought one first.

We have a Ruger SR1911 and a Remington R1. They are both great firearms and haven't had one problem with them. There are sooooooo many different models and prices of 1911s to choose from, so get opinions and try to shoot as many to see which one is best for YOU.

I have had for about 3years and have probably run through 1200 round or so. Once again, no reloads and no issues.

I own both of these in different calibers and sizes. For the money way better than Para. All have run great with anything I want to put in them.

Im not an entry level thinker. I am of the philosophy of getting the best for the least. You can always start with a good base and upgrade yourself into something better bit by bit.
