Do NOT pull the spring out of the gun. The spring will stretch and change it's function.

Pull the slide stop out and remove the slide. Then remove the spring from the rear while still attached to the guide rod.

Pinch the spring at the guide rod end and pull it off.

I got it apart and put it through the "break in" period that you had sent me. Worked flawlessly. Got it all cleaned up like new again.

Congrats on sweet piece ! I couldn't decide between Gold Cup & Combat Elite. I went w Combat Elite and have always wondered if I made the right call.

Although, when Arnold used my gun in Terminator II, it did make me feel a lot better...

Love it but I have dropped a lot of $$ into it. Tungsten one piece guide rod, custom fitted bushing, extended safety & slide release, adj sights which I foolishly did not build into the slide but I love the sight picture. New trigger...

I used to compete in IPSC but had to avoid the unlimited class. I went w the best base model and then built it up as my wallet w allow. Yes, it did save me some money but my lessons learned, "Buy it the way you want it, right out of the box."

I do love my Colts but STI has impressed the hell out of me at the ranges I've been to. Fit & finish on the Colt is excellent. Sandblasted top w highly polished sides is a great contrast.

Bottom line: $600 NIB in 1988 and I've put another $400 into it. Wish it came w Beavertail. Shipping & handling for overnight is $65 each way and that has been killing me since my gunsmith retired.
