Howdy everyone,
Since I got such wonderful responses to my "Convince the Wife" post, I've decided to press my luck and venture down the long and winding road of 1911s. I have fired a few at the range and have made a few determinations but I would like some advice from you folks out there.
First, I seem to shoot better with the smaller barrel guns i.e less than 5 in. I shot the Kimber Pro Carry very well.
Second, I don't have a ton of money so I'm not sure if the Kimber route is the way to go. Are there any comparable options? The gun MUST be reliable and go bang every time. Also, if I do go the Kimber route is the laser really worth it? This will be a home defense and range weapon.
Thanx in advance,

The only "cheap" short barreled 1911s are the Rock Islands and a Springer Champion GI (if you can find one). I've never been fond of one with less than a 4" barrel. IMHO, get a 5" gun and learn the platform. As far as lasers go, if they work for you great but I've never seen a real need for them... |

I agree with NGIB about the barrel length, if you're not going to carry it 5" will be better at the range.
I wouldn't bother with the laser, invest that money into getting a better gun, more magazines or extra ammo. Night sights would be a much better investment, IMHO. __________________ Now hatred is by far the longest pleasure;

Check out Ed Brown. I have one and am very pleased with it. (He does have a website.) __________________ Murphy's law has not be repealed.

While an Ed Brown is a VERY nice gun, it's a lot more $$$ than the Kimber he looked at. A fella on my local GA forum is selling a mint EB Special Forces for $1800 - which is a good deal... |

If he is unsure about Kimber from a financial perspective, why would he look at Ed Brown? He could purchase at least two Kimbers for the price of one Ed Brown. |

Get the Colt model O4860XSE Lightweight Commander.
Forget the laser, use the cash to buy a half-dozen Tripp Research Gen II Cobra mags. __________________ .
