1944 Revisited
Question for you 1911 guys and gals, I am looking for an available 1911 shooter (not a safe piece) to go with some other WWII era pieces. I am not concerned with shooting accuracy, I want something shootable but cosmetically close to a WWII era Government model. I have searched high and low for a new Colt Series 70 without success. So, I am open to suggestions. Someone suggested a Springfield GI, but I don't think they make them anymore according to their website. Another has suggested a Remington R1. However, I defer to your expertise.

The springfieldGI is what I would try to find. Or, the milspec, and you can change the sights. The only difference between the two that I can tell is the sights and ejection port.
Springfield doesn't make the GI anymore. There's rumor they may bring it back though. That doesn't mean they can't still be found though.

Not a fancy gun, but fairly close to the appearance of a GI 1911A1 is the Auto Ordnance 1911A1. Inexpensive, but very close to GI.

My Colt Model of the 1918.
Colt Model O1911ANVIII, Colt Tier III 100th Anniversary Government Model M1911, blued, in .45 ACP with a 5" barrel.
It doesn't get closer than this!

Guys, that is pretty hard to beat and I don't mind paying the freight for a Colt, old or new, but they have become impossible to find! I have a number of their DA revolvers, and would love to an old 1911 Colt, but they are hard to find!

I'll trade ya that unfired 100th Anniversary Government for a Bright Stainless 6" Python.

Unfortunately Canebrake, no Python, of the snakes though, I have two Colt Diamondbacks (very similar, but .38)
