1911's but which one?
 

I want a 1911. I have looked at the Springfield. But when I went to Cabelas, they pointed me toward the High Standard 1911. Anyone have input on these? I thought they only made competition 22's and carbine rifles.

Hopefully Mr. Wray will be along shortly to tell you about his. He seems very happy with it. I handled one about 5 years ago and was supremely impressed with the fit and finish. They are philippine made, but seem very well built.

I hear lots about the Taurus too. But I have also heard the extractor pin in an issue with those.

I saw that Springfield has a .40 cal 1911. I do like that caliber. Anyone else make it in that caliber?

Do your research and remember that if a store steers you towards a specific make that they may want to reduce inventory and not have your best interest in mind.

I've been happy with my Springfield.

Hard to go wrong with Springfield if you want either a basic gun or a platform for a modified gun.

I've also had good luck with ParaUSA pistols, Safari Arms pistols (but lead times for some of their guns can be up to 1 year) and I like the Detonics guns (now that they are back in production).

I'm a 1911 nut. Everybody and they're grandmother makes on these days. It all boils sown to what your intended use is and how much you want to spend. I carried a Kimber CDP TLE/RLII for about 10 years on the street. For what they cost, its a good gun. Sig has one called a Tax Ops that's pretty hot. You're looking at $850.00 to $1250.00. They are both well with the money!

.40 cal in a 1911 isn't a very popular choice and that's why there are not a lot of options. Most people would rather step down to a 9mm or up to a 10mm instead of a .40. Springfield offers a .40 in their EMP pistol.

I have a Smith&Wesson .40 cal. Love it. Has a ton of energy.
