| The 1911 in their words
The 1911 in their words;
I have read a plethora of 1911 quotes/anecdotes/praise snippets that codify our respect for this John Moses Browning work of art.
I will share those that ring true to me, but would like to hear your favorites too.
Here we go:
"Pistols do not win wars, but they save the lives of the men who do. The noble 1911 is a mechanical marvel, whose ruggedness, dependability and ferocious power have comforted four issues of GIs, and which, unlike any other instrument you can name, is as much superior to its rivals as it was in 1917." - January 1968 - Lt Col Jeff Cooper __________________ .

"Given ten days for a project, a good engineer spends nine days figuring out how to finish it in one day."
Resistance is not futile.
It's voltage divided by current (R=V/I).
"If you don't know what you're doing, don't do it on a large scale." |

"The 1911 pistol remains the service pistol of choice in the eyes of those who understand the problem. Back when we audited the FBI academy in 1947, I was told that I ought not to use my pistol in their training program because it was not fair. Maybe the first thing one should demand of his sidearm is that it be unfair." - January 1968 - Lt Col Jeff Cooper __________________ .

JM Browning made it very easy for Mr. Cooper to be smart.
To me, the natural pointability, balance and feel of the 1911 makes it very easy for me to appear to be a better shooter than I really am. Thank you Mr. Browning. I praise your name every time I shoot my 1911. __________________ From C3Shooter:

So many new shooters I've met have changed their entire outlook on handguns after shooting a 1911 for the first time. All of a sudden they are not outdated, not too heavy, not going to have a collection without one...or two,,or.....It's amazing what just one mag can do sometimes. __________________ The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

The only problem I have with the M1911a1 platform:
When I put 2 in the same storage area, they end up multiplying. Just like rabbits, I tell ya. Different calibers, different colors, no two are alike.
(Hey, that is what I tell my wife). __________________ Murphy's law has not be repealed.

Well, Cane; I see someone who drinks more than I do made you a "Mad-terminator". It makes me question their wisdom to allow this to a Colt lover.
Honestly, I have rarely meet someone with your knowledge and welcome you to this "position," whatever it is. (Ah, what is it?)
In the future, I look forward to convincing you in the error of your ways; fortunately, I have no clue what your "ways" may be! But then again, your girlfriends said the same thing (according to police blotters)
Sorry, too many gun shots without hearing protection.
By the way, together with Sprinco, I am building a new 460 Rowland on, of course, with a SMITH AND WESSON 1911!
My feeble attempt at humor aside, I love the 1911; in any form. Colt, most certainly is and has always been the leader for us and the U.S. JMB was a genius, and deserves the praise he is given.
Continue on, my friend; I'll be here to rib you.
Lastly (thank God) would you please use a different Avatar! You are relating yourself to an idiot, and........oh, mine? What's wron....... oh nevermind. Last edited by SHAMUSPI; 08-12-2010 at 06:32 AM.Reason: Because I don't know what I am doing! |
