1911 style pistol made in Philipines

I have recently fallen in love with the 1911. I was at my LGS and they had a hand gun that I thought was a true 1911 but when I asked to see it he explained to me that it was made in the Philippines. He said during the war that the Philippines wanted a pistol like the ones the GI's had but they weren't being made fast enough. He went on to say that Colt sent one engineer and some equipment down to instruct them how to build their own there and after the war they never stopped making the pistol. I held it and it felt extremely well made and the action was very fluid and smooth. The one I am looking at is a .45 with a .22 conversion for around 700. Can anyone tell me if you have any experience with these?

If it is a Rock Island Armory, proceed with no worry. I have a RIA 1911, great shooter for its cost.

Actually, Armscor is the parent company of RIA and makes firearms for other folks.

So if you are looking at an Armscor gun, you should be good to go.

I bought a RIA HD shotgun at a gun show a couple months back. I gave it to my brother for Christmas with plans to get myself a Mossburg. I got the Mossburg and now wish I had kept the Rock Island. It seemed more well built and solid than the Mossburg I got. If that is what it is I will jump on it.

I paid half on lay away. I am in the middle of an AR build so I have to spread money around. The deal was just too good to pass up. Two pistols for the price of one.

I believe you will be happy with your 1911 choice. Remember, pichurs when you bring it home or it did not happen.

Actually, Armscor is the parent company of RIA and sells firearms under other brand names, like Metro Arms.

Armscor/RIA has no connection with MetroArms other than being from the same country. MetroArms is different company that makes a good quality 1911 that is distributed in the USA by Eagle Imports. I have the American Classic Government Model 45ACP and the 9MM Commander.

The other Philippine Company is Shooters Arms Manufacturing that is distributed in the USA ny American Tactical Imports (ATI).

Armscor does manufacture under license for other names like the Legacy Arms Citadel and the Cimarron Arms 1911. Armscor even has a STI Division than manufactures the frame, slide and barrel for the STI Spartan using STI internals. (I have a Spartan V 9MM)
