Another vote for the "imitation/knock off" Dan Wesson....
I own a Guardian and have put a few thousand rounds down the pipe. In my opinion, Dan Wesson is finest example of a production 1911 made. Period.

1911 tend to be addictive. If it was my first I would buy a 5inch colt. If after that ya wanna go high end go for it, but colt is that way to go initially IMO.

Let me see ..... If I had $1400 to spend I think I would buy a Colt Gold Cup and lots of ammo.

I've never have owned a Dan Wesson 1911, they seem to be a poplar choice though.

Let us know what you get and don't forget to show us the pics.

A vote for the pony here .I don't really have much experience with 1911's all around and quite honestly just bought my first one(a Colt Commander Lightweight)just a few weeks ago but have been pleased by the overall quality of the pistol in fit ,finish and shootability .

To HOSSFLY and OLYMPUS:

I was on this forum, reading this thread because after 58 years on this planet, 24 of them active-duty military, I just purchased my first 1911 several months ago. Even though I owned, shot, (and qualified with) numerous handguns; I didn’t own a 1911 or cared to. After buying the first one and shooting it, I now understand the passion it can bring out in an owner. What a great gun! Anyway, I was reading this thread because I want another and wanted to read that others were saying.
Lots of good info here. Then I came across the posts “skimball” made. Most others made rationale, common sense rebuttals. But slamming him because of the numbers of posts he’s had over the years…………..?
When “notoriousM3” tries to counter that with his personal example, HOSSFLY posts a non-contributing “so what” comment.
In 12 years of public school and six years of college getting undergrad and grad degrees I spent most of that time listening, observing, and reading. Not talking or giving my opinion. Most people get their education in like fashion.
Let’s put it this way……………… Is a yappy little dog who barks at everything from crickets to airplanes more of a dog because he’s noisy? Is Obama a great president and politician because he makes a lot of speeches and gets media attention?
As a kid I remember my mother telling me that, “it’s better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt.” These days I teach college. I tell my students it’s, “Ready Aim, Fire – not; Ready, Fire, Aim!” I offer both pieces of wisdom to you. Oh yeah, feel free to slam me for the number of posts I had. Then compare my join date.

Be safe! –Aim High
